And while Vista is a bit of a mess, Office 2007 was a genuine step forward in a lot of ways - going to OpenOffice (which I also re-evaluate periodically) would be a step backwards in personal productivity. I actually do run various Linux versions on different systems (including in VMWare on this one – SuSE is open right now), but it’s not a good fit for my main system. So long as it was not a laptop or had an ATI graphics card you maybe should have tried Ubuntu. Boots in a fraction of the time, far lower overhead, and although Open Office 2.2 isn't quite as good as uSoft Office it also doesn't cost $700 / seat. It works well opening and creating Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access documents, not that you like do much with Access. AND (drum roll) it's free. Ubuntu actually works fine on laptops and with ATI graphic cards, just not as well as it should with AirForce One wireless cards and ATI 3D accelerators. A Missed opportunity!
