Thanks for the post - I'll check out LondonTown before I head there next summer. Although the personalised service element may be missing, I recently found a great worldwide hotel reservation site. Check it out in my blog at http://webtraveltoolsreviews.blogspot.com

I actually do run various Linux versions on different systems (including in VMWare on this one - SuSE is open right now), but it's not a good fit for my main system. And while Vista is a bit of a mess, Office 2007 was a genuine step forward in a lot of ways - going to OpenOffice (which I also re-evaluate periodically) would be a step backwards in personal productivity.

A Missed opportunity! So long as it was not a laptop or had an ATI graphics card you maybe should have tried Ubuntu. Boots in a fraction of the time, far lower overhead, and although Open Office 2.2 isn't quite as good as uSoft Office it also doesn't cost $700 / seat. It works well opening and creating Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access documents, not that you like do much with Access. AND (drum roll) it's free. Ubuntu actually works fine on laptops and with ATI graphic cards, just not as well as it should with AirForce One wireless cards and ATI 3D accelerators.

But I didn't even mention the brand new printer that stopped working on my father's G5. His MacBook seems to be printing away, though. Not a good week in printing for the Crawford family.

Julie just got a MacBook. We plugged in our (now fairly old) HP PSC combo printer + scanner. I was very skeptical that it would work, and expected to need to download drivers.

No "install" dialog popped up; no visual indicator that the printer was there. So I feared the worst.

I brought up Word. Picked Print. And lo and behold, there was the printer.

It just worked.

No crashing, no driver installs, no nothing.

(I also used a PowerBook for a year, and would have continued using it, but it was just too slow. I eagerly await a new MacBook Pro with a faster processor and a small (12") form factor . . .)

Sorry to say, but I am consoled to read about your situation as this has just happened to me - $360.00 in phone calls to Pakistan - please tell me how I am supposed to have any faith in society - by profession I am an Oncology nurse and right now I am having a hard time - it's hard to care for people when nobody cares about each other.
